Following are some areas that are typically needed for volunteers:
Health & Safety Training and Instructors: Why not get trained so you can save a life or help someone in an emergency situation? Classes are offered monthly. We are always in need for CPR and First Aid Trainers, as well as trainers in the other classes we offer at all three of our branches; Yuba City, Nevada City and Chico.
Disaster Services: You can be on call to help someone when they face an emergency. On a Disaster Action Team (DAT) you are trained to help the victim and their family when they face fires or other emergencies. Your Red Cross assists families in need with money, food, a place to stay for 72 hours and by putting them in contact with those who can assist them further. After training you can also be deployed to other parts of the state and country to assist in disasters through our DSHR program. Our Personal Emergency Preparedness program is looking for those who will be trained to train others how to prepare for emergencies and disasters.
Translation: We are in need of those who speak Spanish, Punjabi, Hmong, Vietnamese and other languages to assist in training and communication with those who do not speak English as their first language. We sometimes need people to translate documents.
Office Workers: We are often in need of people who have office skills such as typing, filing, answering the machine, running office equipment and errands for our full-time staff.
Building Maintenance and Repairs: Taking care of the grounds, repairing broken fixtures, small remodel jobs are sometimes available for volunteers. You can use your skills as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, landscaper or general handyman!
Computer Techs: Sometimes we need people who are "computer savey" and can help us with those frustrating computer problems, networking, wireless, printer problems or other computer issues. We are also looking for someone who can oversee our website by adding new information and keeping it up-to-date.
Public Relations: We need people who can relate well to others and represent the Three Rivers Chapter to the public by visiting businesses, dropping off brochures, newsletters and informing them of our services.
Writing Newsletters: We are looking for someone who can prepare our monthly newsletter and send it out by electronic mail.
